"Bear"

"A good dog never dies. He always stays.
He walks beside you on crisp autumn days when the frost is on the fields
and winter's drawing near.
His head is within our hand in his old way."

-Mary Carolyn Davies

Name Origin:  We picked him up in winter from his breeder- this blonde, baby Polar Bear look-a-like. Named after the place (Fox Run), not the kennel, he is a blend of Swedish (Dewmist), Canadian (Kyon) & American lines. Nordic pays homage to my Norwegian ancestry, & Sweden, where I lived for a brief time as a child.

Bear stands 24.5" tall and weighs 74 lbs. Originally purchased as a companion dog, he is the one that taught me the most about the breed standard (a written blueprint for the ideal Golden) and opened a door to the world of dog shows. Bear is the "top dog" in the Aquinna pack, always patient with younger pups/adolescents and has a sterling "golden" temperament. He lives to please! He is a happy, devoted boy who has given me more than I could ever possibly repay.

 Achievements:

My "novice A" dog. My first performance dog. The one I made all the mistakes on and still forgave me. Bear passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen test (CGC) and from there the journey took off. Taking an Introduction to Competition Obedience course, put me in touch with so many talented instructors who to this day, continue to be instrumental in my success.

Over the years, we have been humbled & honored to compete with some very talented dog and handler teams in the competition ring. On occasion, (when the ring stress demons are sleeping) we have managed to place against those in the tough "B" classes. What a great feeling this has been, when we are able to work together as a team. I couldn’t be more proud of Bear!

Bear  has 1 leg towards his CD in Obedience and completed his 20th RAE leg in 2012.  Bear is also a member of the "100" club in Rally and holds multiple blue ribbon placements in both obedience & rally. He has been a wonderful working partner who has garnered 56 AKC qualifying scores in Obed./Rally and has achieved 7 titles to his name. In 2012, Bear was one, of only two golden retrievers to achieve the RAE2 title*.  We are so proud of our boy! Athough he got a rather late start to showing, he has proven to be a willing, honest and hard-working dog.

Bear is now retired from competition.
